Translation

Specialized translation of written texts, with attention to purpose, style, glossary, target audience, and consistency with brand tone. It can go through a more literal or more creative approach, depending on the project.

Editing/Revision

Revision of a translation done by another human to check if the target text matches the source text for information, nuance, technicality, and readability.

Proofreading

Also known as reviewing, it means going through the target text to make the last changes necessary for it to be perfect. It focuses on clarity, flow, vocabulary, grammar, style, and appeal to the reader, among other things.

Transcreation

A big step beyond translation, this involves a greater level of creativity, cultural awareness, and persuasive intent, for content types such as product names, slogans, social media, 'About Us' pages, and other forms of promotional copy.

Website & Software Localization

Making websites and apps globally accessible involves more than just adding different languages: it requires cultural adaptation for adequate navigation (UI and UX), formatting content (including multimedia, currencies, display), legal compliance issues, and attention to SEO elements, just to name a few.

Linguistic Quality Assurance (LQA)

In a final evaluation of the translation/localization process's result, the linguist checks the target text for accuracy, format, and client guidelines. The findings are detailed in a report assessing the current quality status of the content.

Since 2023, I've been consistently translating and revising Easygenerator's website into Brazilian Portuguese. This includes competitor pages, features, customer stories, and their contact page.


This project requires me to use and work on a particular skillset. It involves marketing expertise (paying attention to brand voice, persuasive copy, buttons, and CTAs), website localization and creative translation (SEO-focused translations, metadata localization, cultural adaptation, idioms and expressions localization – sometimes even transcreating entire segments), technical terminology (within the e-learning domain), as well as the usual translator skills that involve attention to detail, terminology consistency, and continuous communication with Aurelia, my always helpful project manager.

MCIL CL

I became a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) in 2023, which was a great achievement for my career. I also became a chartered linguist by the same institute, which means I fulfill a series of requirements that show a high level of competence and skill. Master's Degree in Translation

I obtained my master's degree from the École Supérieure d'Interprètes et de Traducteurs (ESIT - Sorbonne Nouvelle University) in Economic, Editorial, and Technical Translation, which was a major step in my education. I also finished the program with an exceptional grade, being granted honors at my graduation (mention bien).

Brazilian Federal Institutions

I am an accredited translator for some Brazilian federal institutions, such as the Ministry of Citizenship (MC), Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Superior Electoral Court (TSE), and Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM). This means I have been certified and authorized to translate documents for them.

Bachelor's Degree in Law

I obtained my bachelor's degree in 2015 from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, with a particular focus on the philosophy of law, political theory, and criminal law.

ISO 17100-compliant

Competence, excellence, and responsibility are among my core values as a professional. One of the ways I can show this is by following the ISO 17100 standards. This includes gathering some documentation and certifications extensively fulfilled by my years of experience and master's degree. It also includes investing in the use of professional translation tools and using them to ensure the client's style guide, terminology, and general guidelines are adequately followed. It also means taking special care to protect sensitive data and put security measures into place in my workflow. Finally, it also involves breaking down the translation process into a series of steps to ensure the final result meets high-quality standards. Whenever possible, I go through 3 (main) different stages:

3-Step Workflow

  1. Rough Translation: I create an initial draft of the entire document, capturing the general meaning of the source text. The focus of this stage is to produce a natural text, so no perfectionism here.

  2. Self-Revision: I meticulously revise the draft within the CAT tool, comparing the source and target segments to ensure accuracy and consistency. The focus here is to check whether all the information and nuances from the source text are accurately represented in the target text.

  3. Final Proofreading: After taking some time to rest and clear my mind, I go through a final proofreading, polishing the target text to correct and perfect it before delivery. The focus here is to improve readability, flow, and style while fixing any grammatical errors or word repetitions.

These are, of course, the main stages. Depending on the project, the workflow may include other prior steps (such as studying the content and other reference materials to gather relevant terminology) and final steps (such as performing a QA within the CAT tool, playing the content on video to check whether it fits the timeframes, and more).
